Potty Training

A few weeks ago, we were face timing with Ember and she had learned to use the potty and she was showing Ryken how to do it like a big girl. We all cheered!! She got to put stickers on her chart and get a treat and all that fun potty stuff!
So that got Ryken thinking about it more and more...which was great since we were talking it up and planning to start in a week or two anyways!

We got our new potty seat the week before and then on Monday, November 24, we started potty training Ryken!!
He was a little timid to sit on the potty, but that was short lived.
He went pee pee and then that started the exciting time!
He would exclaim "I did it!!!!!" It was fun to see him so excited!!
Daddy check in on us during the day to see how it was going and we had good news to share with him. He even went poop for the first time - which he was most excited to share that news with daddy!! Dad sent encouraging voice messages to Ryken which he loved and wanted to hear them again and again!

He just runs around the house with just a shirt and his underwear on. No pants!
When he sits on the potty and nothing comes he just get a normal raisin as a treat for trying!
If he goes pee-pee on the potty he got a sticker and he got 1 chocolate covered craisin.
And when he pooped, he would get a sticker and 2 chocolate covered craisins.
These incentives worked great on Ryken!
He LOVES to flush!!
We tried the sticker chart...not knowing if he would like it, or if he would just not even care. But he LOVES the stickers!
By the end of day one, he went pee 6 times and poop once.
He had one accident as well.
We have had more poop accidents than pee! But over all he has done so much better than I had expected! We were thankful!!
By Friday, he finished all his pee-pee spots and now he has earned a new ball of his choice!!
That next week, we went to the store and he already knew he wanted a football before we got to the store!! And it even had the color orange on it too - perfect for Ryken.
Even though, he finished his pee chart, he still wanted stickers! So we had another one for him to fill up and he did just that! He has done so great!
The second week, we started leaving him in underwear for naps and he hasn't had one accident yet. We have only put him in underwear a few times when we have left the house...but he has stayed dried. And when we have put him in a diaper...most the times it was dry. It has been so encouraging!
Just this past Sunday, we were in the middle of church and he had a diaper on and he told us he needed to go potty, so Chris took him and he went! So that also was a good sign!

We believe that he was ready, since it has gone so well!!
Did I mention how thankful we are! :)

  1. Yay!!! Good job Ryken!!! :) that is awesome! Like the idea of raisons for trying, that way there is always an incentive. :) I will start trying to potty train Jace at the end of January… We will see how that goes, but we already have his "cars" potty wrapped under the Christmas tree! (what a practical gift! haha!) Glad it went so well for you guys! Maybe we will have to FaceTime you and Ryken can show Jace how its done!!! :)
