We started rainbow activities about a month ago.
With the business of life, 2 different visitors and going away for a weekend ourselves, we finally finished all the activities.
It was fun for both of us and I was reminded how much I enjoyed having structured activities to do with Ryken!
Food coloring in water
Putting the flowers in!
The first couple times he put the flower in the water, instead of the stem!
How it is supposed to work, is the flower will take the colored water up its roots and then the petals will take on the color of the water.
Ryken loves his flowers...whoever we FaceTimed with or came over he showed his flowers too!
After a few days, the colors were slowly coming up into the petals.
Mostly on the underside of the flower...but it worked! So it was fun!
We planted our own seeds as well!
And remembered Grandma Flin while doing it!
They grew.
Even more than this picture did, but no flowers! (which I didn't expect)
We read the story of Noah's art and talked about how Noah trusted and obeyed and how God sent a rainbow that signify's the promise that He will never flood the land again!

He hung his Noah's Ark Craft on his door knob. He liked looking at the animal stickers on it each time he was down in his room.

A few colored activities.
Ryken did some color fish graphing.
He didn't line them up, but he did cluster them into piles and that was just perfect for me. He did great!
He colored a fish by numbers as well.
This was very difficult for him, as the fish scales were quite small and there were just a lot for him to keep his attention on. But he stuck through it and mom helped a little!
Ryken made a rainbow fish with smiley stickers.
We also watched some Rainbow fish videos on Youtube, since the ABC book was the only one our library had at the time!
This book has the rainbow colors, so it seemed to be a good fit to the rainbow unit.
We used many Bear printables along with the book.

Although, he liked putting the bears from little to big the best.
Matching heads and tails.
This was Ryken's first attempt to drawing lines and it was far harder than I expected it to be! He just made circles and did whatever he wanted. I tried to guide his hand, but he was resisting it a lot. But at least it was introduced! :)
We watched Brown Bear, Brown Bear on YouTube as well!
When we were in Bismark over Memorial Day weekend, we went to the zoo and saw some big brown bears!
We also saw a rainbow parrot!
God was so kind to provide a real rainbow in the sky during the time we were learning about them.
Since it just rained, we talked about the promise God gave for providing the rainbow as a sign.
Mom made a rainbow of our own with the chalk, cause Ryken didn't care to help very much! :)
He wanted to take all the pieces out and roll them down the driveway instead.
We made a rainbow of our own by making Rainbow Waffles!!
He had a blast!
Mix the batter up!
Divide it into 5 colors!
Put it in the waffle maker!
The batter was far more runny than it looked in the video...but it still worked well enough!

We made a rainbow of our own with tissue paper.
He seemed to like this activity, since he kept at it all the way through to purple.
Then the clouds were a great way to end it.
He was proud of this masterpiece as well and showed Dad as soon as he got home!

These books were just filled with animals of the colors of the rainbow! So much to look at! He enjoyed them and loved pointing out the butterflies.
He also liked my impression of a puffer fish and tired to copy it. We just laughed.

A lady from our church gave us a little shirt for Sorraya that had a rainbow on it and he pointed out the rainbow right away!
Oh it's fun when they learn something new and talk about it when they see it!

Wow! So many fun things!!! This makes me want to do rainbow colors with mine! Love his thumb in his mouth while doing a puzzle. And the snacks are so fun!!!

ReplyDeleteAgreed with the others! Such GREAT ideas! I am going to have to do a summative color week at the end of all my Brown Bear stuff and focus on RAINBOWS!!
