Tot School: Manners

We did the Topic Totes for Tots on Manners for the past 3 weeks!
All the books from the tote, plus one!
Ryken wrote Thank You notes to those how recently gave him some gifts! There is always something to say thank you about!
Ryken found all the M's on his paper, which was the letter we focused on during this unit.
He also noticed the C's from last study, and so we stamped those in a different color!
Ryken learned to make his bed, and does most days!
We talked what what words come out of our mouth and when it is appropriate to say them!
I made a Loud Vs Quiet chart and had pictures of places and events and we went through and talked about when we should be loud and when we should be quiet.
He got every single one right!!
The first week at church, Ryken learned about opening doors for people. He sure looked handsome! The doors were heavy, so daddy helped him some!
The second week at church, we practiced out proper greeting.
Eye contact, say hello, and shake their hand. He thought this was silly and would laugh every time! During the week, when we were running errands, he asked to shake a random man's hand. The man was a good sport about it and Ryken enjoyed it!
Since we were learning about the letter M...it was easy to learn with MnM's!
Sorting the colors and then counting to see how many of each color!
We learned a lot about what we do at the dinner table.
-Chew with your mouth closed.
-Use a quiet voice.
-Sit still and wait till everyone is done eating.
-Don't talk with your mouth full of food.
-How to say you don't care for something.

Ryken also learned how to set the table!
He first colored his own place mat!
He practiced setting a place with a felt cut outs puzzle!
Then he practiced with real paper products!
Then with his guide...he set the table all by himself for the 3 of us.
Beautifully done!
He memorized Psalm 34:8 during the study.
"O taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him."
He always has a hard time saying 34:8...so he says three, four, eight.
More learning through MnM's.
We matched the paper number to the number of MnM's shown on the card and then matched the MnM's. He wanted to match the colors, but the cards had more colors than the actual MnM's did.
Then we just worked with the number cards and mini MnM's to help recognize the numbers.
We talked about how hands are for helping and all the ways they can help while looking at scripture to go along with it!
Got the idea from here.
We did a fun Floating M's science experiment with MnM's and it worked!!! YAY!
You drop MnM's face up into a bowl of warm water.
Then watch the MnM's dissolve and as the dissolve the edible M stamp does not dissolve, but instead flakes off and floats to the top!
We did this a few times as it was a big hit!
Then we ended with a few more M activities.
He traced letter M as well!

It was a fun unit to do together! He enjoyed it and I enjoyed doing it with him!
And that's all that really matters!

  1. Wow! I am impressed! He looks so polite and proper! :) It is so great that he makes his bed and can set the table! Such a big boy! This is such a good idea for toddlers since obviously manners do not come naturally! Great idea mom/library! And I love all the activities you planned to go along with this unit.
